Dentures

Complete dentures, “plates”, replace all teeth and removable partial dentures replace some teeth. Dental implants can help to improve the stability and retention of complete dentures. Different types of implant-supported dentures are explained on dental implants (hyperlink).

Dentures can improve facial appearance and self-confidence with careful selection and design of smile. Dentures can also improve speech problems caused by missing teeth and will improve chewing ability.

For patients missing several teeth, but not all of their teeth, a removable partial denture may be recommended. This type of denture uses the remaining teeth to anchor the removable prosthesis in place with hook and anchors on natural teeth. There are many different types and designs for removable partial dentures.

Although dental implants are often “the standard of care” for replacing missing teeth, certain circumstances indicate removable partial dentures. Typically, a removable partial denture is made of a metal framework with pink plastic to replace the gum tissue and plastic denture teeth. It is important to know that the comfort and stability of the removable denture can be affected by the number and location of missing teeth. Dental implants can help to improve the stability of a removable partial denture.
