Why see a prosthodontist?

Prostho (“replacement”) – dontics (“dealing with teeth”) is a dental specialty recognized by the American Dental Association (ADA). In short, prosthodontists are the recognized experts when anything needs to be replaced in your mouth from a single tooth to all teeth. They specialized in treating dental and facial problems to restore teeth and jaw structures with dental implants, crowns, bridges, veneers, dentures, and more. While many other dentists can do some of these treatments, prosthodontists are the specialists dedicated to this type of care. Rigorous training in advanced techniques and technology and experience ensure prosthodontists a special understanding of the complexity of esthetics and functions and the preservation of a dental health.

ADA-Accredited

Prosthodontists are considered the “quarterbacks” of the dental treatment team to execute the complex dental treatments, with a team of general dentists, specialists and other health professionals. A prosthodontist usually has three additional years of advanced prosthodontic training and education in an ADA-accredited program after completing dental school. For example, Dr. Jamie Yum had two years of training in advanced general dentistry and then additional three years of prosthodontics training after the completion of dental school. She also successfully fulfilled a rigorous examination conducted by the American Board of Prosthodontics.
